Starting German: build a routine you can keep

A practical starting point for your first steps in a new language.

Begin with a useful goal

Choose a small task you want to handle in German: introducing yourself, asking a question, or understanding a short conversation. A specific goal helps you connect your study time to something meaningful.

Make practice manageable

Set aside a short, regular period to listen, read aloud, and revisit new words. Write a few sentences of your own instead of only copying examples. Keep a list of questions to discuss with your instructor.

Get guidance on your starting level

If you have studied before, describe what you can already do and where you feel less confident. Ask about a suitable course before choosing a level. Explore the school’s German courses and ask us about the right starting level.
